Vocabulary is vital to people at all levels. Just think of how many people have word-of-the-day calendars or apps! Research suggests the average English-speaker knows between 6,000-60,000 words — that’s a big span!

Undoubtedly, people encounter more words that this number, but to truly understand a word, one must be able to define it, provide an example, and use properly when speaking or writing. This proves to be harder than some may think when we don’t see everything a student encounters through their eyes.

Reading Strategy: Close Reading for Elementary Classrooms

Close reading has become a key strategy in recent years as teachers encourage students to slow down and interact with their readings. This strategy allows students to create a stronger understanding of the tone, text, form, and analyze at a deeper level.
